We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kate Pawlicki Bourne a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kate, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Creativity thrives on conversations, so I seek them out. When launching a new brand, creative thinking becomes the guiding force. It’s about telling a story that goes beyond the norm, tapping into cultural relevance, and coming up with marketing strategies that make a genuine and lasting impression. Engaging with people, being out in the world, and actively listening to emerging trends is vital for nurturing a creative spirit that breathes life into a brand.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Embarking on the journey of launching GhostTownRanch.com, based in Twentynine Palms, at the foothills of Joshua Tree National Park, represents my yearning to create something new and tangible in the offline world. Inspired by my days studying Art History in Italy, the vision is simple — embracing old-fashioned ways, tending to olive trees, and finding creativity in what they offer. In the SoCal high desert there’s a strong connection between the past and the present. Having planted these trees in such a harsh climate — 85% of Joshua Tree National Park is managed as wilderness — is proof that even in tough spots, good vibes last, and the past is a goldmine of cool ideas for what’s coming next.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Vision: Clearly defining your long-term goals and vision provides a guiding compass for decision-making and actions.
Adaptability: Embrace change as an opportunity to learn and grow, allowing you to navigate uncertainties and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
Continuous Learning: Prioritize ongoing education and skill development to stay relevant in the ever-evolving landscape of marketing, business, and technology.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was fostering an environment that encouraged the arts, creativity, and self-direction. My advice to others is to create a nurturing space that values self-expression, allowing individuals to discover and cultivate their unique talents.
